On July 1, 1950 Forrest Albert Nees married Ruth Evelyn Raab. That was a pretty important day. Without it my mom wouldn't have come to be, and so neither would I, or our two boys. I know that's kinda dumb and obvious, but I think it's really easy to take for gr
anted how one little thing, like two people falling in love and getting married changes the world. Grandpa and Grandma Nees celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this summer. Here they are young and in love and still in love above with their great grandsons. Let's not kid ourselves. 60 years is a long time to do anything. I don't know if Chad's willing to put up with me for the next 60 days! :) Building a marriage and a life with someone isn't easy. And it seems like these days, most people throw in the towel when they hit a bump in the road. Thank goodness Grandpa and Grandma held on when they hit the bumps.
July 1 was also Grandma's 80th birthday. Here are the boys "helping her blow out her candles" which is also known as "spitting on her cake."
While Grandma got birthday presents, Grandpa unwrapped his Father's Day presents. Then we took in some summer air on the porch.
And as I'm typing this, Grandpa celebrated a birthday on Friday...we'll be making a trip home soon to spit on his cake, too. We don't want him to feel left out. :)
