Grant has shown a glimmer of interest in coloring and writing thus far. He's recognizing his name, and starting to recognize the names of friends at school. He spells his name with the fridge phonics blocks, and picks out words that look similar to his name. The other day he was super pumped that his name was in the pantry. 'Mom! Look!! It's me! It's me!' It took me a minute to catch on, but he was pointing out a box of pasta, Walmart brand, Great Value. Great. Grant. Hey, it's super close. One letter difference as a matter of fact. He's been able to write his t for awhile now, but hasn't really showed much interest in writing his full name. Big moment though when he colored a birthday picture for Lindsay and signed his own name, unassisted. We were so proud. So was he.
of course, coloring for Lindsay is as good as motivation gets for him. (We may have to pretend it's her birthday again, because he hasn't written his name since then. Stinker.)
Speaking of Mad Skills...we have a talented squirrel in our back yard. Well, maybe not talented, but he's a thinker....kind of. Landon yelled one day from the window, Mom! Look at this squirrel! And what do ya know, this enormous squirrel had grabbed the small roll of landscaping weed blocker that was laying in the bottom of the swing set where the sandbox area is. He had a hold of the loose side and unwound the thing while taking off for the trees. He got to the bottom of the trees and tried to carry it up the tree, ran up the tree and down the tree without it several times, then just gave up. He did entertain us for awhile though.
Landon was concerned...of course....but his level of concern and worry has really been curbed since last year. I think he was feeling empathy for the squirrel. I'm sure he was cold...he could've used some covering up there in those trees. ;)
